Our Stanley

It is with a heavy heart that we write this post. Our sweet boy Stanley had been sick on and off for the past month. We thought he had come through it, but last week he stopped eating and we knew something was seriously wrong. Turns out that he had hepatic lymphoma, and we had to say good-bye to him.

We want to use this space to pay tribute to our good boy. We are so unbelievably grateful to have found him at the Oregon Humane Society back in 2004. Since then, together, we've hiked hundreds of miles, climbed several mountains, lived in four states, swam in countless bodies of water, traveled across the country, and played hours of fetch. Our love for him was matched every step of the way by his love for us.

The Stanimal gave up quite a bit of attention to Jane when she arrived on the scene, but he was honestly the best possible animal to have around a baby. He followed her everywhere, was always ready to play with her, and never once lost his patience with her...even if she grabbed an ear or his tail.

Stanley, we cannot thank you enough for the joy you brought into our lives. We will never forget the wonderful times we spent together. We hope you are swimming and climbing up in heaven. I am sure there are plenty of balls to catch, lakes to swim, table scraps to find, and people to play with up there. You will always be our sweet boy.

Oh dear, I'm crying. Stanley was an amazing dog and such a beloved Maurer family member. We feel so lucky to have shared in some of those hikes and dog park swims with him, and we know how much he will be missed. You're all in our thoughts. We're heartbroken for you and are sending lots and lots of hugs. xo
