The Twins Turn Five!

Jane didn't want to miss this momentous occasion! So, at 11 weeks, I took Jane on her first airplane ride to Ohio. Except for a few fussy cries due to being tired, Jane was an angel! We even had a two hour layover in Atlanta each way and she did great. Upon arrival at the Dayton airport, a crew of cousins and aunts were there to meet us. Jacob, Cole, and Jaeden just couldn't wait to meet Jane (who quickly earned the nickname, "Chubby Cheeks" by Cole).

Cole was quite observant in declaring that Jane's right cheek was bigger than her left, and would ask in the morning with a smirk, "When is Chubby Cheeks going to wake up?" He loved touching the soft spot on the back of Jane's neck and talking to her when she was awake.

Jaeden learned how babies eat from their mommies (thanks Krista for not talking to them about this before I got there). No, Jane is not eating my arm, and yes, you ate this way when you were little too! On the first night, I was soothing Jane to sleep in a rocking chair and Jaeden joined us with her baby and her rocking chair. After about 30 minutes of rocking and Jaeden asking, "Is she asleep yet? When are you going to put her in her crib?", she quietly put her baby down and went out the door, saying she would be right back. She never came back as playing with Cole was much more fun!

Jacob was excited to meet baby Jane too, although he kept his eye on her from a distance. He entertained her through his sporting events, as we went to his basketball game and a wrestling meet (at which both Cole and Jacob competed).

The big birthday party was populated with lots of cousins, aunts, uncles, grandpas, and grandmas. We celebrated with Jaeden's ladybug cake and Cole's humungasorus volcano cake.

We went to Texas Roadhouse to celebrate their big day on their actual birthday, January 25th (the party was the day before). Jaeden and Cole were surprised when the waiter announced to the restaurant that it was their birthday - they got to ride the bull and got a big "Yee Haw" from everyone. I think Cole was excited:

As an added bonus, Jane got to meet our dear friends Becky and Roni. They were so sweet to make the drive over to Springfield to meet Jane and I at Clifton Mill for breakfast. Despite a late arrival and a fussy Jane during breakfast, it was so great to see them and Jane loved meeting them! She hopes she gets to see them both soon!

New Toys

To celebrate our birthdays, we bought a new camera. Yes, we are those parents, but let's face it, we'll be able to better capture those adorable smiles! See our little cutie for yourself:

And let's not forget about Stanley - now we can actually take a picture of him looking at us, even if he is giving us a rather surly face...

We also bought Jane a mobile for her crib. Thanks Grandma for the really cute old mobile (Boo to the manufacturers of the mobile, as it didn't fit our crib!), so we had to take it back and this is what we got her. I think she likes it - what do you think?

Week 10: Keeping warm isn't hard for Jane

So, most of you reading this are dealing with much colder weather than us wimps here in Memphis. However, sympathize with us for just a moment. We aren't used to this cold weather, so when you wake up and the temp is 13 degrees (windchill is 4), it feels pretty darn cold. We also learned that our house isn't used to this weather either. Our house is very drafty and our central heating system is working overtime to maintain even 65 degrees! Thanks goodness the high temp tomorrow is 40+ degrees! In the meantime, we are managing - we bundled Jane up and this just means lots of snuggle time for Jane and mom.

However, as evident in these bath pics - I think Jane is holding her own in the insulation department and doesn't need much help from us!

Despite the cold temps, Jane has been a big fan of giggling and smiling this week. As you'll see at the end of the video, she's a fan of spitting up as well!

Play time!

Jane was happy that Dad decided to go into work a little late this morning. After not seeing him too much over the weekend, she enjoyed some play time with him this morning. Thanks Daddy!

Jane's twin complex

We have mentioned before that Jane just loves looking into the mirror and staring at the other baby in the house. It is precious to see her smile at, laugh at, and talk to "the baby". We are convinced that she is going to have a complex when she gets older, wondering where her twin is. Wouldn't this view entertain you for hours too?

Although, when I need to use the swing as a "soothing" mechanism for her to go to sleep, the mirror is less than convenient. Here's some video to demonstrate (Video is taken after Jane has been in the swing for 20 minutes and had been very sleepy, "had" being the key word here!):

Hard Day's Work

Before going to the Dr. yesterday for her two-month check-up, Jane decided to take a bath, relax in her robe, and just hang out. She deserved this time of relaxation considering she had such a good report from the Dr., weighing in at 12 lbs, 5 oz and 23 inches (gaining 2 lb, 5 oz. and growing 1 1/4 inches since her 1 month visit). She has been working hard this past month!

Two Months Old!

Bigger cheeks, more fat rolls, a little less hair (revealing the lovely "skirt" hairdo), blue eyes still, smiles for mom and dad, lots of cooing - this is what Jane has been up to over the past month. It is hard to believe that she is already 2 months old! (Compare this to her one month pic here).

Happy New Year!

We spent New Year's Eve at our house with some friends, playing Wii and playing with Elena, who proved to be the life of the party. Jane slept through the whole event, but conveniently woke up to eat at 11:55 pm. Needless to say, Jonnett missed the ball drop, but Scott did get his New Year's kiss a few minutes late. Sarah enjoyed time with her friend Elena:

On January 2nd, Jonnett's sister, Amy, and brother-in-law, Frank, and our friends, Chris (Frank's brother) and Jill came to visit for a few days. This was Chris and Jill's first time to meet Jane!

We had a great time cooking some good food, playing a Euchre tournament (Scott and Jonnett won!), and laughing at each other while playing the Wii. It is almost just as fun to watch as it is to play! This is what a Wii tennis doubles match looks like...
