This Ain't No Skim Milk!

In the south, people enjoy drinking "sweet mirk" - translation: whole milk. Apparently, Jane has some southern roots. She had her two week appointment with the pediatrician on Thursday, November 20th, and let's just say she received the "A+" report. At birth, Jane weighed 7 lbs. 8 oz. and when we left the hospital on Thursday, November 6th, she weighed 7 lbs. 1 oz. Normally, at the two week appointment, one hopes that the baby is simply back at birth weight.

In Jane's case, she weighed in at 8 lbs. 6 oz - she had gained 1 lb. 5 oz. since leaving the hospital! Our pedatrician said it was safe to say that we had established a "healthy" nursing relationship! Though this picture appears in a previous post, I think it is appropriate to post again, as it displays her "growing" cheeks!

More Awake than Sleep Time lately...

Jane had been doing so well during the night (relatively speaking) - waking every 2 - 3 hours to eat and then going right back to sleep. However, this week, Jane decided that she would like to spend a little more time awake than sleeping. During the daytime she has decided that the early afternoon hours are a good time for "hanging" out. And, unfortunately, on Thursday night, she decided that midnight was also a good time for "hanging" out. Mom did not agree with her and was happy to see her finally fall back asleep around 2 a.m. Let's hope this doesn't become a regular habit!
Some video of her "awake" time:

Grandma Odom Meets Jane!

I'm not sure who was more excited for this visit - Grandma (to meet her 4th grandchild), Jane (to meet her other Grandma) , or Scott and I (to have another helper on hand so we can get more sleep!!). Regardless, Grandma flew in on Thursday, Nov. 20th, and will be with us for the next few weeks. We are lucky! I think Jane is pretty excited too (okay, so she is a bit expressionless, but I know the emotion is there!):

Scott goes back to work...

Thank you Aunt Krista for such a great visit! Are you sure you don't want to move in as our Nanny? We enjoyed all of your help and loved visiting with you.

Now, Scott and I are left alone for another few days before Grandma Odom comes to meet Jane. It is hard to believe that we have been parents now for two whole weeks - and we have survived! In fact, life as just the three of us (oops, four of us - sorry, Stanley!) is relaxing and we couldn't imagine it any other way.

Jane even managed to sleep for four whole hours last night - it was so wonderful!
Daddy wasn't quite ready to head back to work today; but, it had to happen. Jane and I are missing him at home, but we are managing just fine. It has pretty much been the same routine as always - eating, sleeping, and changing diapers! Maybe we'll wait for Daddy to get home before venturing out for our daily walk. Until then, Jane is just chillin' in her moses basket. Oh, the difficult life she leads!

Jane meets her favorite aunt (so far...)

Aunt Krista (Jonnett's sister) arrived in Memphis yesterday and met her favorite neice! The feeling was mutual from Jane's perspective as well (at least for now, until she meets her other aunts...). Krista does have the magic touch as Jane as fallen asleep in her arms quite a few times already over the past 12 hours. Thanks for letting Mom and Dad sleep, too! Jane is looking forward to lots more snuggle time over the next few days!

And Jane would like to give a special shout-out to Jacob, Jaeden, and Cole for the fabulous books that they picked out for Jane. Krista delivered the special gift and Jane says, "Thank you! I can't wait to meet you!"

Jane busted out the "claw" while sleeping...

Chillin' with Daddy

Jane enjoyed her first book reading (although I think Daddy may have been more into it...). Dad and Jane read "There is a Bird on Your Head" by Mo Willems. A wonderful book that is part of the Elephant & Piggie series and Mo is one of our favorite children's authors.

After all that excitement, both Dad and Jane were ready for a nap. Sweet dreams!

Jane has cut the cord!

We were busy celebrating Jane's one-week birthday on November 11th, when we realized that we had another momentous occasion to celebrate - Jane's umbilical cord fell off! This will definitely make diaper changing and bathing a lot easier!
No, this is not Jane all grown up, but if only Jane could be as cute as Elena when she gets older - then we'll be lucky! Our friends, Dave, Katrina, and their 11 month old daughter, Elena, came over to meet Jane and were so kind to bring us dinner! Elena can't wait until Jane can actually play under the table with her!
And, here's Jane being the cutest little thing ever! We just can't take our eyes off of her!

Flyin' Solo with Jane

Grandma and Granpa left yesterday morning, leaving Scott and I to fend for ourselves. Our first day venturing into the world of parenthood on our own was uneventful, exciting, and wonderful. She treated us well during the night, sleeping for 2 1/2 - 3 hours at a time and gave us lots of smiles during the day. We took a walk as a family, breaking in BOB (Jane's pimped out ride), and getting Stanley used to walking with a stroller. We still have quite a bit of work to do on the latter!

After our long walk, Jane was ready for a nap (okay - Mom too!)

Jane's first bath

Whenever Grandpa comes to town, we put him to work (see what the did last Thanksgiving). This weekend proved to be no different. We had a small kitchen project that Scott needed a little guidance on, and not only did Jimmy provide the advice, but he hooked Scott up with some much needed tools as well. Thanks Jimmy!

Grandpa and Scott weren't the only ones working hard this weekend. Jane was working hard at finding her thumb:

After all that work, it was time for Jane's first bath. Although it proved to be fairly traumatic for her!:

All nice and clean!

Jane enjoys her presents and visitors!

Saturday was a busy day. We had our first visit to the pediatrician and Jane has gained 2 oz. since leaving the hospital, now weighing in at 7 lbs 3 oz. Seems like the milk woman has been treating her well! Unfortunately, she did have to make a trip to the hospital to get her feet poked again to test her jaundice. That was heartwrenching, but fortunately, her levels are okay and we just need to keep sunbathing her! Aunt Sara came to visit and Jane was completely relaxed in Sara's arms...hope you are ready to babysit! Thank you to all of you who have showered us with flowers! They are beautiful and we are enjoying them.

And, we have finally had a chance to use some of those great gifts that everyone gave to us, thought we'd show you how much she loves them (of course we can't forget all of the clothes keeping her warm and the lovely knitted blankets to swaddle her with!): Thank you Jenn, Todd, Travis, Marin, Chris, Rachel and Makena for my swing - I love relaxing in it while my parents eat dinner!And...when it is my turn to eat, I have Aunt Amy to thank for the "Hooter Hider" so I can eat in some peace and quiet!

If you are anything like us and can't get enough of Jane, here's a link to lots more pictures from her birthday and the days since then - click here.

Milk-Woman Pays Jane a Visit

The weather was super nice today, so the whole family went out for a walk. Thanks to Erica for the awesome moby wrap! Stanley loves his baby sister. He has been sleeping with his blankey from Jane. Last night he was very worried when she cried during a changing, but by the 4th diaper change of the night, he decided it was ok to sleep through it.
Other news of the day...grandpa came to town! Jane is just a little on the jaundiced side, so she slept in the sunlight with grandma for a few hours. Naps are getting longer and longer now because the milk fairy came last night. All of a sudden there is A LOT more of this breast milk stuff to go around! With all this extra food around, she's got some hiccups. Here's a little video of that. (Yes, we've become THOSE parents!)
Tomorrow we pay a visit to the pediatrician. Hopefully less jaundice so we can avoid another poke!

Jane is rollin' in her new hood

So Jane and Jonnett got sprung from the clink this afternoon. Mom is getting around a lot easier, and Jane is getting better and better at this whole feeding thing. Stanley greeted the baby with a kiss, and then tried to get her to play with him...nothin' doing.

We showed Jane around the house. You know, showed her where the bathroom is, told her where to find towels and clean sheets...the usual. So far she has just been kinda sitting there. Talk about a high maintenance house guest.

At any rate, here are some more pics...enjoy!

Baby Votes for Barack!

As Jonnett predicted, our little bundle chose a very historic day to be born. Jonnett and I are pleased to announce the birth of our daughter Jane Christine Maurer. She was born on 11/4/08 at 12:43 pm. She is 7 lbs. 8 oz. and 19 inches long.

Jonnett and Jane are both doing great! We get to come home tomorrow if all goes well. Keep looking for more posts!
